Annie Get Your Gun

I was brought in to work on Annie Get Your Gun by the lead designer Laura Hughes. I made two dresses which became six dresses by taking away and adding separating pieces. My main task for this show was to build a hat that a bird can get shot off.

I designed this by running a rubber tube up the back of the actress’s dress, up her neck, through her hair and in to her hat where it connected to the underside of a yellow bird perched on her hat. The other end of the tube ran down the actress’s sleeve and into her purse where it connected to a portable air compressor (used by cyclists to inflate tires on the road). At the right time, the actress pressed the air compressor trigger sending a shot of air through the tube and the bird high into the air. This worked so well the bird ended up in the audience.
