The Wiz was a mostly white cast which presented me with some new issues. How to be true to the original production and yet remain culturally sensitive? In the end I decided to make Eviline a puppet master, her slaves puppets and her flying monkey was based off an anime character named Kankuro. I also turned the Wizard into a cyber techno genius. The lion’s costume was stitched together out of around 50 different fabrics and my tin man was cobbled together from pieces found at American Science and Surplus.
