When I was doing research for The Crucible I discovered the 2014 version put on at the Old Vic in London. Soutra Gilmour’s costume design was outstanding and after seeing it, I knew I could not beat it. I borrowed heavily from her ideas and made sure to name her as my influence in the program for the show. I think a smart designer recognizes good ideas, even when they aren’t her own.
